NEUTRAL SPRING OUTFIT, MAKEUP, & HAIR Collaboration with Nashville Blogger, Beaus and Ashley!
As I write this post, I reflect back to the year 2015. I had graduated from Belmont University two years prior with a degree in Music Business, and was struggling with finding a job and finding it difficult to make a break through in country music as an artist. I was working a management position at a retail clothing store at the mall, and hating every minute of everyday. Ideas for starting my own hair and makeup business were churning-- I had my business name, logo, website in the works, etc. however, I had no clients and very few people who were willing to take a chance and work with me on creating a portfolio in order to have content to build a clientele.
It was by the grace of God that Ashley stumbled into my life when she did. She was newly engaged and had applied for a sales associate position at the store where I worked. As soon as she walked into the store for her first shift, I knew that she and I would become close friends. While working our sad little retail job, we bonded over our love for fashion, hair, and makeup. One day, I got up the courage to ask if she would let me do hair and makeup for her upcoming engagement pictures. Ya'll, I didn't even have a makeup or hair kit at the time! I am so glad that she gave me a chance because it was after that, Ashley asked me to do her hair and makeup for some of her wedding party guests, and a few events that she had coming up. Needless to say, Ashley Wilson was among those who helped create and mold my business into what it is today!
When Ashley first started her blog, formally known as Beau and Arrow Nasville , we worked together quite a bit! Marriage, kids, and life got in the way and it has been nearly two years since we have worked together. I was so excited when Ashley reached out and wanted to collaborate again for a spring 2018 look! Her vision for this photo shoot was absolutely dreamy, as she wanted to create a beachy vibe with neutral tones to her wardrobe and makeup. Ashley discovered a new coffee shop located just outside of Franklin in an area called Berry Farms, Coffee and Coconuts! It's literally the cutest little coffee shop that I have ever seen and the atmosphere will make you feel like you are in Malibu! From the actual coffee itself, to the tastiest zucchini muffin imaginable, to the decor, lighting, and everything in between, I was in heaven!
For this look, Ashley wanted to keep everything very neutral airy and light, which I love and I knew the photographer, Chelsea Rochelle could deliver perfectly! For the hair, Ashley has long beautiful locks, therefore I wanted to do something different and create a style that showcased her hair but with a twist. I created a 5 minute half up half down style with looped topsy turvey dutch braid incorporated in the back! I began by wanding her hair with my 1 inch Paul Mitchell Neuro curling wand. After I created the braided hair style, I finished it off with some Oribe dry texture spray, and Kenra finishing spray.
For the makeup, neutral and natural was the name of the game! I did want to incorporate those shades, however use rich, bold, colors on the lids and lips. Ashley and I both take pride in taking very good care of our skin since we are both on the dry side, I came prepared with all of the skin goodies. I first prepped Ashley's skin with Urban Decay's Quick Fix Hydrating Facial Prep and Prime Spray. This is an important step because it helps reduce pores and hydrates to leave your skin fresh and flawless! Next, I applied Tarte's drink of H20 hydrating boost moisturizer. I love this moisturizer because it leaves a cooling effect on your skin, but also makes it feel so soft directly after use. For the foundation, I used Tarte's Amazonian Clay 12 hour Foundation. This foundation is amazing because it's, oil free, hypoallergenic, and has an SPH in it, which is very important as we are approaching warmer weather! For concealer, I used Nars Creamy Radiant Concealer in the shade Custard. For the eye makeup, it was all about keeping it bronzy on the lids. I used the shade "buck" in her crease, swept "half baked" on her lids, and "smog' in the outer corners from one of my favorite shadow palettes, The Naked Palette from Urban Decay.
For contour, I kept it simple and used the lighter contour shade from the Anastasia Beverly Hills contour palette "light to medium". I wanted to use a blush that was peachy but wasn't too bright. MAC's blush in the shade, "melba" was a perfect shade! For highlight, which was very important for this look, I used the shade "skylight" from Tarte's Skin Twinkle Lighting Palette vol. II. When it came to lips, Ashley can rock a darker nude lip color, therefore I wanted to use Urban Decay's "stark nude" lipstick to complete her look.
Overall, a girls' coffee date was the perfect way to kick off the weekend! I can't wait to work with Ashley and Chelsea again for future projects. Everyone, please be sure to visit her amazing fashion and lifestyle blog Beaus and Ashley! Who run the world? Girls!
